The African violet is an herbaceous perennial flowering plant native to Tanzania and southeastern Kenya in eastern tropical Africa. Many people around the globe share a common interest in this one amazing plant. This fascinating plant, hailed as “America’s Favorite Houseplant,” provides color and beauty in the home all year long. I grew and propagated these plants for years until my two cats decided to acquire a taste for the flowers and leaves. Though they are not toxic to the cats, raising flowerless plants with chewed leaves seemed pointless. “African Violet,” is a digital image and hand-painted photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio.
Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
