Description
In the 1800’s, hundreds of thousands of American flamingos wintered in the tropical climates of Florida. However, by the end of the century, European settlers eradicated the long-legged waders through feather and egg harvesting. Since then, the birds had been scarce in the Sunshine State—until recently. In 2012, ornithologists discovered their return to the Everglades. Their origins are a mystery. Some researchers believe they are wild birds that migrated from Mexico, while others suggest that they are escapees from Zoos. The good news is that they are again breeding and flourishing in the wild. “The American Flamingo,” is a digital painting.
