Description
The camellia Japonica is a flowering tree that grows wild in mainland China, southern Korea and southern Japan at altitudes of around 980–3,610 ft. Since the 11th century in China, artists have presented the camellia on porcelain and in paintings. In the early 1800’s, Camillea cultivars were introduced in the United states. In fact, it is the official state flower of Alabama. This Spadecaller image also features the ruby-throated hummingbird, the only hummingbird that breeds east of the Mississippi River. Its migration north from Mexico is timed according to the appearance of certain flowers along their route. “Camellia Japonica and Hummingbird,” is a mixed media / hand-painted digital image created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio.
