Description
Above the city a fortress stands at the slopes of a huge mountain, where a woodsman, Ewan, lived for many years. When anyone asked about his unique stone house, he described it as a gift, yet he offered nothing about its origin. Ewan had promised never to share how this stone citadel on the cliffs became his home. However, after his death, his diary revealed the story. When Ewan was young, he had come to the forest. The strong young man built a small hut and ventured out to cut and sell his wood. One stormy morning just as he emerged from the dark hut, he heard a scream. Grabbing his ax, he spied a man pinned beneath a large oak tree that had fallen. Without a word, Ewan began chopping away at the tough oak tree. After some time, he pulled the tree away. A well-dressed man stood up and told him that he was wandering in the forest hoping to clear his worries away, when the wind began to blow. Ewan listened. The young nobleman explained his dilemma. “I am supposed to marry the king’s daughter and live in the stone house that I just had constructed. But while I was stuck under the tree, I realized that I did not want to be trapped ever again. I have decided! I want to reward you for saving my life. You shall have the stone citadel by the cliffs. It is now yours. But promise me that you will never tell anyone that I gave it to you.” Ewan promised.
