Related to the frangipani, this succulent shrub is an evergreen. It grows to 6 feet high in the wild but is usually smaller when cultivated. Though it is a popular indoor plant, the Desert Rose frequently adorns landscapes in Florida, California, and Mexico. In this hand-painted digital image, a rufous-tailed hummingbird is perched on the blooming desert rose. “Desert Rose and Hummingbird,” was created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio on 6/28/2020.
Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
