Description
Once common in Florida, the long-legged pink birds commonly known a as Flamingos disappeared in the 1800s. Historically, flamingos were found in the Florida Keys, Florida Bay and what is now Everglades National Park. They were hunted out of existence for their striking pink feathers, which were prized decorations for ladies' hats. But these long-lost birds of Florida have returned. A large flamingo flock is alive and well in Florida Bay. Originating from wild flocks in Mexico, the flamingos have returned to the Sunshine State. South Florida researchers consider these flamingos native residents. “Flamingos of Florida,” is a digital painting and composite by Spadecaller.
