The pretty Frangipani flower is a true tease. The blossoms do not produce nectar, though its pollinators are seduced by its powerful fragrance. In their futile search for nectar, however, pollen is still transferred to the stigma. Perched below the flower, the praying mantis waits for the baffled prey. This hand-painted digital image was created in Spadecaller's Florida studio.
Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
