Artist's Description

Sand Key is a quiet area on a barrier island on the west coast of Florida, adjacent to Clearwater Beach. The beach is a nesting site for endangered sea turtles. In addition, the salt marsh draws herons and anhinga. Often when I fished from the rock jetty, a great blue heron would stand beside me waiting for a small fish or some shrimp. Sometimes, the heron would lose its patience and would snatch my bait before flying off. Despite the unscrupulous companionship, I still enjoyed their wonderful presence. “Great Blue Heron at Sand Key,” is a hand painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio.
