Description
Kingfisher in the Mangroves
Amidst the life-sustaining mangroves dwell many wonderful species, such as the Common Kingfisher. The kingfisher ranges from Europe, Asia, to North Africa. In temperate regions, this bird inhabits clear, slow-flowing streams, rivers, and lakes with well-vegetated banks. Diving from scrubs and bushes with overhanging branches close to shallow open water it hunts small fish and aquatic insects. In winter it frequents estuaries and harbors along rocky seashores. Tropical populations inhabit slow-flowing rivers in mangrove creeks and swamps. Common kingfishers are vital contributors to ecosystems and indicators of clean freshwater. The presence of this bird confirms the quality of healthy water. “kingfisher in the Mangroves,” is a digital painting and composite created by Spadecaller.
