Artist's Description

Almost 30 Nuthatch species are known worldwide, four of which occur in North America. The pair of nuthatches portrayed in this image are Chestnut-bellied Nuthatches (Sitta cinnamoventris). These are native to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam; where they inhabit dry forests, moist lowland forests, and humid mountainous areas. Similarities between the species have made it difficult to identify distinct species. The greatest diversity is found in Southern Asia. The birds in “Nuthatches after a Sunshower,” are perched in a beautiful Japanese Maple Tree (Acer shirasawanum) commonly known as ‘Autumn Moon.’ This is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio.
