Description
Belonging to the kestrel group of the falcon family Falconidae, the common kestrel is a bird of prey. It is also known as the Eurasian kestrel or Old World Kestrel. In Britain, where no other kestrel species occurs, it is generally just called "the kestrel.” This species is prevalent across Europe and Asia. The old world kestrel has strayed to North America from both directions, with small populations occurring in the northeast, Alaska, and British Columbia. The common kestrel is found in a wide variety of open habitats including coasts, moor land, farmland, wetlands, roadside verges and parks. In this digital painting and photo composite, the setting for the kestrel is a salt marsh in Ireland.
