Description
The Peruvian Apple Cactus is native to South America, although they are also thrive in Florida. Their blooms are nocturnal; they bloom during the night and shortly after the morning sun rises their robust flowers wilt and fall off. It was early in the morning just before sunrise, when I first saw these beautiful blossoms. The cactus (tree) stood about 12 feet high. They can grow up to 33 ft. if they are not cut back. The fruit from the Peruvian Apple is thornless and ranges in color from violet-red to yellow. Its sweet flesh is edible and contains small, crunchy seeds that can be eaten too.
