Description
As a young boy, I learned that one of the first signs that winter was coming to an end was when our pussy willow tree began to show those furry nubs. Where I lived, we didn’t have any ground hogs poking their noses out into the cold. But when those soft silvery-white tufts on the pussy willow tree appeared, I knew that spring was soon to come. I guess they are called pussy willow because they resemble tiny cat paws. In actuality, they are the tree’s flowers just before they fully bloom. The soft furry coating insulates these early blossoms from the cold. Encountering two bluebirds perched in a blooming pussy willow is an uplifting harbinger on a cold winter day. “Pussy Willow and Bluebirds,” is a hand-painted digital image created by Spadecaller.
