Artist's Description
During the 40's and 50’s in France, the images of pheasants often adorned ceramic dishes, platters, and teacups. I first discovered this many years ago, because my father was an importer of fine French and Italian ceramic pottery. He had brought home a set of French bowls festooned with countryside scenes, which featured ring-necked pheasants.
As a young boy, I recall eating my cornflakes and sipping soup from these bowls, while admiring the fine artistry. Many years later, I inherited these bowls and after sixty years, I still marvel at the charming French landscape scenes. This is the source of my inspiration. “Ring-necked Pheasant at Sunset,” is a mixed media and hand-painted digital image with background elements derived from winter landscapes by Johann Jungblut (1860 -1912). This picture was created in Spadecaller's Florida studio on 12/14/2019.
