Artist's Description
Cotton in the Southern states of America is harvested every year in the fall and winter. When the bolls crack open exposing the fluffy white fiber, the crop is ready for harvest. Unlike the past, picking, planting, and baling cotton is fully mechanized.

Cotton sown and harvested by the hands of black slaves powered the textile revolution in the United States. In fact, the chief cause of the Civil War stemmed from the fear of losing black slave labor. “Song of the Wren,” is a digital painting and photo composite created in Spadecaller's Florida Studio.
