Description
The white Peacock is not a different species of peacock. Due to a genetic variation, it is born all white. White peacocks are not albino; albinos lack all color and have pink eyes. White peafowls have blue eyes and colored skin.
The national bird of India is the Indian Peafowl commonly known as a Peacock. The peacock is native to India and further east, but the bird has a long history in the Middle East, perhaps originally brought by early Indian traders to ancient Babylon. After Alexander the Great’s conquest, the Greeks learned of the peacock. They quickly added the bird to their most revered deities.
There are many mixed tales told about peacocks in popular Islam. According to one tale, God created a peacock which sat on a tree and prayed for 70,000 years using prayer beads. Then God put a mirror in front of the peacock. The bird was so pleased at its own beauty that it prostrated itself to God five times. Hence, the tradition of five prayers a day arose among the Muslims.
“White Peacock,” is a hand-painted digital image created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio.
