Description
Protected for almost 50 years after they were hunted to the brink of extinction, wolves are again under attack. Competition for land and prey threatened this wild canine. The greatest threat comes from the false notion that reducing the wolf population will increase the size of the deer and elk herds. Offering bounties for the killing of wolves temporarily produces larger deer and elk herds. This only appears to be a boon for hunters and tourists who seek trophies; the fact is, however, the increase in head populations produces disease and starvation. Wolves maintain healthy herd sizes by killing off the weak and sick. Ultimately, the herds are stronger and less prone to spreading disease and birth defects to the offspring. Wolves have a lot in common with human beings; they are social, family-oriented, and highly adaptable. While there's no record of a healthy wolf ever attacking a person in the United States, old myths and fears continue to distort the truth about these wonderful creatures.
Digitally hand-painted in the style of ultra- realism.

Information about the artist, this image, and its creation: I am an old-school painter with several years of traditional experience. In recent years I (and many other artists), have developed their talent by using software to create digital art that is unique. The picture that is presented here, never existed in real life as a photograph captured by the lens of a camera. This image started with a composite of photos and digitally hand-painted images that were first layered in Photoshop. The final outcome is a unique image entirely. If you enlarge the image sufficiently, you will observe brush stokes and colors that were not produced by any camera or by a paint brush. These strokes are painted by hand through the use of digital software. I love and respect the art of photography and traditional art forms. However, the creation of this image exists beyond what the camera photographs. This is an alternative dimension of visual art that steps outside photography and outside the scope of oils, charcoal, pastels, acrylics, or watercolor. I hope that this vital and distinct form of art will continue to gain wider acceptance and respect among art enthusiasts and my fellow artists .
