Description
The Blue-crowned Motmot is found in Mexico, Costa Rica, Central America, and most of South America in rainforests, forest edges, shady gardens and shaded coffee farms. These colorful birds have long tails with two round feathers known as racquet-tipped tails. Motmots frequently swing their tail plumage in a pendulum motion, earning them the nickname “clock birds.” These two motmots are perched in a Kapok tree beside the pochate (fruit). The Kapok tree is the most sacred of all Mayan trees. Since pre-Hispanic times, the fruit has provided secret remedies for healers, as well as a highly valuable silky fiber for clothing. “Blue-crowned Motmots in Kapok Tree,” is a digital painting and photo composite created in .Spadecaller's Florida Studio.
