Description
At the top of a steep cliff, the Cap-des-rosiers Lighthouse towers over the mouth of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, where it flows into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The lighthouse extends 34.1 meters (112 feet) into the air. Its white marble walls over 2.1 meters (7 feet) thick at the base taper off to 0.9 meters (3 feet) at the top of the tower. The edifice rests on a foundation rooted 2.4 meters (8 feet) deep into the ground. Its powerful light, rises 41.4 meters (136 feet) over the sea. Since its erection in 1858, it has guided ships without fail. This is a digital painting and composite.
