Artist's Description
Christmas Cactus in Silver Pot
The Christmas Cactus is a member of the Schlumbergera genus, which consist of six to nine species found in the coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil. The common names for these cacti refer to their flowering season. In the Northern Hemisphere, they are called Christmas cactus, Thanksgiving cactus, crab cactus and holiday cactus. Presenting tubular flowers with abundant nectar, and colors in the red spectrum, these flowers are adapted for pollination by hummingbirds. This still life is a hand-painted digital image photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on Christmas Day, 12/25/2021.
