Description
In the 17th century England, the name “French toast” was first used. However, the earliest versions of this popular dish have been traced back to the Roman Empire. The recipe and the name came to America by early settlers. In France, the recipe is called “pain perdu,” meaning “lost bread.” French toast was originally made with stale bread – bread that would otherwise be thrown away. In this still life, the countertop exhibits the basic ingredients used in preparing classic French toast. “Essence of French Toast” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite completed in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 3/25/2022.
