Artist's Description

The Japanese Quince is a deciduous tree that bears a pome fruit, similar in appearance to a pear, and bright golden-yellow when mature. The exquisite quince blossoms are among the first to bloom in late winter and early spring. The quince symbolizes nature, beauty, and tranquility. Since the 11th century, the flowering quince has appeared in Asian art and literature. The quince was written about in the Book of songs, which is the oldest existing collection of Chinese poetry. One of the stories follows a traditional courting ritual: the exchange of gifts. A maiden gives three flowers to her suitor, quince, peach, and plum, and in turn, he gives her three different precious stones. “Flowering Quince in Vase,” is a hand-painted digital composite created by Spadecaller.
