My thoughts of the Jewish holiday, Passover 2020, are entangled in a world beset by a deadly contagion, the coronavirus. As with all Jewish holidays, the spiritual meaning of Passover is of much greater significance than its history, as it marks a time to review our relations. It’s pertinent to any person who strives to work on freeing themselves from vice and oppression, regardless of background, race or nationality. Passover ultimately signifies a transition in our attitudes and relationships: from egoistic, divisive relations to altruistic, connected ones. However, this year, we do not congregate. We choose to quarantine ourselves; not just to protect ourselves and families, but to protect our neighbors. Humankind hopes for the freedom to live safely and openly with others. We close our doors and wait for the disease to passover.
Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
