The orchid represents springtime. The beauty and elegance of the orchid is fragile in form. Like the plum blossom, its fragrance is never overpowering, symbolizing humility and nobility. The orchid is one of the Four Gentlemen (also called the Four Noble Ones). The Four Gentlemen refer to four plants: the plum, the orchid, the bamboo, and the chrysanthemum. For more than a thousand years, the Four Gentlemen have been depicted in Chinese Painting because of their exceptional beauty and the moral characters with which the Chinese scholars have imbued them. “The Noble Orchid,” is a mixed media and hand-painted digital image created in Spadecaller’s Florida studio.

Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
