In Japan, cherry blossoms symbolize clouds due to the appearance of copious blooming flowers. A grand profusion of cherry blossoms emerge in the spring and within a few weeks the flowers fall from the tree. The cherry blossom signifies the transient nature of life, which is an aspect of Japanese cultural tradition that is often associated with Buddhist influence, and which is embodied in the concept of impermanence (無常 mujō), or transience of things. Understanding this transient state of being brings one empathy for the gentle sadness or wistfulness of life. “Sakura” is a hand painted digital image created by Spadecaller.
Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
