Description
The largest heron native to North America is the great blue heron. Cruising the coastline with slow, deep wingbeats, the Great Blue Heron is a majestic sight. In the summer, it is found throughout most of North America, as far north as Alaska and the southern Canadian provinces. In winter, the range extends south through Florida, Mexico, and the Caribbean to South America. On the shores of Florida, fishermen are often surprised when they discover this large bird standing stealthily nearby waiting for a live shrimp or small fish. Their seemingly coy presence is often rewarded by a charitable gift. Should the heron lose patience, it is no surprise when this great bird steals the delectable booty and flies off. “Sunset Flight of a Heron,” is a Spadecaller hand-painted digital image and photo composite that was derived from the original work of photographer, Don Vecey.
