Artist's Description
Perched atop a large-leaf rock fig tree, is the brilliantly colored fruit dove, commonly known as the Mariana fruit dove. They primarily feed on papaya, figs and inkberry. Roosting high in the forest canopy, this fruit dove carefully conceals itself from intruders by remaining still. This endangered bird lives on the Northern Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The brown tree snake, which was carelessly introduced to the Islands poses its greatest threat. Efforts to save this bird in the wild are being sought by researchers from the Houston Zoo
This hand-painted digital image and photo composite was created in Spadecaller's Florida studio.
