Description
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an international document approved on December 10, 1948, by the United Nations General Assembly that enshrines the rights and freedoms of all human beings. The poster is an excerpt from the human rights declaration.
The document set a world record in 1999 for being the most translated document in the world.
For the first time in history, the world had a globally agreed document that marked out all humans as being free and equal, regardless of sex, color, creed, religion, or other characteristics.
The 30 rights and freedoms acknowledged in the UDHR include the right to be free from torture, the right to freedom of expression, the right to education and the right to seek asylum. The UDHR encompasses civil and political rights: the rights to life, liberty, and privacy. It also includes economic, social, and cultural rights, such as the rights to social security, health, and adequate housing.
How well are the governments of our world respecting, advancing, and preserving these rights?
