Artist's Description

Wood ducks are full time residents in the Southeast and along the Pacific coast of the United States. Concentrated along the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic coast south of New Jersey are the highest populations. Many wood ducks migrate north to cooler climates during the summer months. Wood ducks can be seen in every state east of the Rocky Mountains and throughout the Pacific Northwest in the summer months. They prefer areas that have a mix of water and forests habitats adjacent to ponds, lakes, marshes and along rivers and streams.
After the pair breed, they build their nests in the cavity of a tree; often a hole abandoned by a woodpecker. They prefer trees that hang over water or are close to a water source. With wetland loss and competition from other species, sometimes they will use nest boxes built by people.
Though their populations temporarily declined in the late 19th century, Wood ducks are currently not listed as threatened or endangered. Wood ducks still face threats...

Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
