The suitably named snowshoe hare has large feet, which enables them to traverse the snow without sinking. Taking up to ten weeks to change color completely, their white furry coats turn brown during the summer to sustain its protective camouflage. Snowshoe hares are primarily a northern species ranging as far north as the shores of the Arctic Ocean. Along North American mountain ranges, where elevation simulates northerly habitats, they can be found as far south as the Appalachians in Virginia and the Rockies in New Mexico. “Snowshoe Hares,” is a mixed media digital painting and photo composite created in Spadecaller's Florida Studio.
Spadecaller is an experienced traditional artist, who creates original hand-painted digital images and photo composite artworks. In the late fifties at eight years old, Spadecaller started formal training in traditional oil painting.Through considerable personal sacrifice, his mother nurtured his artistic talents and provided him with the tools to launch his creative journey. Spadecaller attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71), and during the 70's up until the late 80's, he exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York.
