Description
The blue and gold macaw and several other parrot species are found in the rainforests forests as well as meadows, fields, woodlands, and the savannah of tropical South America. This macaw is native to Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Paraguay. These birds possess large, powerful beaks that can easily crack nuts and seeds, while their dry, scaly tongues have a bone inside that makes them a useful tool for tapping into fruits. The macaws often nest in dead M. flexuosa palm trees that can grow up to 30 to 40 meters (115 feet) high. Squawking and screaming usually in large, noisy groups, they spend most of their time in tall, deciduous trees in forests and near rivers. Despite their deafening shouts, the blue and gold macaws are popular in aviculture because of their striking beauty, their ability to talk, and they bond well with caring humans. They can also live for 65–70 years. “Tropical Blue and Gold Macaws” is a digital painting and photo composite completed in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 4/2/2022.
