Description
China’s native name for camellias means ‘tea flower’. Camellia sinensis, known as the ‘tea plant’, is the most common plant used to make tea. From the tea family, Theaceae, the Camellia is a small flowering evergreen tree, which typically grows 6-12' tall. They are native to China, Japan, Korea, India, and Indonesia. Green tea, black tea, white tea, oolong tea and other types of tea are all made from young Camellia leaves. There are Camellia trees over 500 years old in the Japanese emperor’s garden. The oldest living camellia, planted in 1347, can be found growing in China's Panlong Monastery.
