Description
Japanese water iris (Japanese: hanashōbu), is a species of flowering plant of the iris family Iridaceae, native to Japan, China, Korea and Russia, and widely cultivated as an ornamental plant. It thrives best in boggy or marshy environments. These flowers are highly prized in Japan. Its history suggests that it was introduced into Japanese culture in ancient times, in association with rice farming. They have been cultivated and hybridized for at least five centuries. This is a hand-painted digital image created in Spadecaller's Florida studio.
