Description
The peach tree originated in China and Persia (Iran). The cultivation of the peach dates to about 6000 BC in Zhejiang Province of China. A domesticated peach appeared very early in Japan, in 4700–4400 BC, during the Jōmon period. The peach was brought to the Americas by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, and eventually made it to England and France in the 17th century, where it became a prized and expensive treat. Peaches are not only a popular fruit, but are symbolic in many cultural traditions, such as in art, paintings and folk tales. This image unites a new world species, the hummingbird, with the fragrant peach blossom. Of the approximately 340 hummingbird species all of them are found in the Americas. The bird featured in this digital image is a fiery-throated hummingbird, which inhabits the Talamancan montane forests of Costa Rica and Western Panama. It is commonly found dwelling in the scrub at the woodland edges and clearings. “Peach Blossoms and Hummingbird,” is a hand painted digital image created by Spadecaller.
