Description
The rufous treebie is a member of the crow family (corvidae). It is native to the Indian Subcontinent and adjacent regions of Southeast Asia. With its long tail and loud musical calls, it is quite conspicuous. Like other corvids, it is very adaptable, omnivorous, and extremely intelligent. It is usually found in open scrub, farmland areas, forests, as well as residential gardens. The range of the rufous treepie is expansive, covering Pakistan, India and into Bangladesh, Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand. The rufous treepie is principally an arboreal omnivore feeding on fruits, nectar, seeds, invertebrates, small reptiles, and the eggs of young birds. Like other members of the crow family, it will hide food for later consumption. The “Rufous Treepie Pair,” featured in this image are perched in a silver trumpet tree. This is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 9/8/2020.
