Description
The white rose is also known as "the flower of light." It symbolizes everlasting love - love stronger than even death, an eternal love, undying and all sustaining. The white rose glorifies the love that resides in the soul, as opposed to the red rose that speaks of passionate promises. In this image, the delicate innocence and purity of the white rose is shown thriving in the wilderness. I dedicate this image to my son, Joshua, who passed away on June 8th of 2016.
The white rose signifies an ageless love that is sustained by loyalty, reverence and humility. Originating from mythology, the white rose is introduced by Aphrodite (Venus), the goddess of love. She sprang forth into life from the foaming sea, and where the foam fell to the ground, white roses grew.
In one story, she runs to rescue her wounded lover Adonis and catches her flesh on the thorns of the white rose bush. Her blood falling on the bush turns the roses red, symbolizing the way innocence and purity change to experience and motherhood.
The next time you give white roses to a loved one, consider its significance. The diverse meanings of white roses are as beautiful and as lovely as the enchanting flower itself.
