Description
The natural habitat of the Vanda ranges from India and Sri Lanka to Northern Australia. It is the national flower of Singapore. In Hawaii the flower is frequently used in floral leis. These colorful and often patterned orchids bloom twice or sometimes three times a year with long lasting flowers. In 1613, Alvin Semedo discovered the vanda orchid and called it ‘tiao hua’ or ‘air plant’. The plant grows and blooms on trees and does not rely on soil for its nourishment. The roots either hang loose in the air or wrap themselves around a tree, absorbing moisture from the air. The “Speckled Vanda Orchid” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite completed in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 5/18/2022.
