Description
The fragrant seed pods of this orchid yield the natural vanilla flavoring that is widely used in deserts and beverages. For this reason, the vanilla bean orchid is often simply known as “vanilla.” Native to Mexico and Central America, this vining orchid requires high temperatures and humidity to thrive. As an epiphyte, it lives on a host tree without drawing nutrients from it. In a branching zigzag pattern, the vine crawls up to the treetops with each branch bearing one to two dozen creamy blooms. A mature vine can bear several hundred flowers. “The Vanilla Orchid,” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite completed in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 3/10/2022.
