Description
Abundant throughout the northern hemisphere, the wild Mallard is the ancestor of most strains of domesticated ducks. Mallards favor freshwater habitats, including marshes, wooded swamps, grain fields, ponds, rivers, bays, and lakes.
Wild Mallards in North America are mostly migratory, though feral populations are often permanent residents. Fall migration extends over a long period with migration commencing relatively early in spring. When pairs form in fall and winter, drakes (male Mallards) tend to follow females to their breeding areas.
“Marsh Landscape with Mallard Ducks,” is a hand-painted digital paintings and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 10/4/2023.
