Description
Named for its short tail, the cat appears to have a cut or “bobbed” tail. The Florida bobcat is found in deep forest, swamps, and hammock land throughout the entire state. Dense thickets and saw palmetto patches provide them with well-concealed dens and resting sites. A solitary, mostly nocturnal creature, the bobcat may live up to 14 years. In rural Florida, bobcats establish territories of about five or six square miles, which they carefully surveil. Though hunting by stealth, the bobcat delivers a deathblow with a leaping pounce that can cover 10 feet. While relying on a diet consisting of rabbits, birds, mice, squirrels, and other smaller game, these fierce hunters can kill prey much bigger than themselves. “The Florida Bobcat” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 2/9/2021.
